Hardcore sports fan collect sports memorabilia. The most common thing to collect is their favorite team’s jersey. Sometimes a team franchise will be so good that it will gather fans outside the particular sport. Case in point is the Chicago Bulls or the LA Lakers. People who know next to nothing about basketball will wear a Bulls or Lakers’ jersey. Once in blue moon, a team will emerge and become bigger than the sport itself. This team is the NY Yankees. You may hate baseball but you’re a Yankee fan. Love them or hate them, everybody is a fan. That’s why Yankees jerseys are more expensive than other jerseys.

It doesn’t matter if the Yankees are having the worse season ever, Yankees jersey will always have a premium. Their franchise is bigger than any baseball player. Michael Jordan was bigger than the Bulls franchise. He was even bigger than the NBA. If Michael Jordan was a baseball player (the minors doesn’t count), I don’t think he can be bigger than the Yankees.
